What's a good kind of bass guitar?

So I already know how to play a 6 string guitar, I already own 2 but I
know nothing bout a bass guitar, except that they have 4 strings. Is
there a good brand of bass guitars out there? or what kind of bass
guitar should I get? I wanna learn bass guitar but it would be a real
useful skill.
